Setting up My Windstream Email Account

Setting up your Windstream email through the email client on your PC or mobile device is easy. Select your email application from the list below for a detailed set of instructions.

Computer Email Clients

Outlook 2010

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Outlook 2010:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook and click the orange "File" menu tab at the top of the page.
  2. Click on "Account Settings" in the middle of the screen and select "Account Settings" from the drop down menu.
  3. Click the "New" button on the "Email Accounts" screen.
  4. Check the box at the bottom for "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and click "Next."
  5. In the "Choose Service" screen, select "Internet Email" and click "Next."
  6. Enter in the corresponding settings in the "Internet Email Settings" screen. See the image below.
  7. Click on the "More Settings" button to the right and then select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Put a check in "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.
  8. Click on the "Advanced" tab at the top and make sure that your settings match the settings shown in the below table.
  9. Click the "OK," "Next" and "Finish" buttons.

Your Windstream email account is now setup in Outlook 2010 and you should be able to send and receive email.

Outlook 2007

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Outlook 2007:

  1. Open Outlook 2007 and go to the Tools menu. Select "Account Settings."
  2. On this window, select the Email tab. Click "New."
  3. On this window, place a checkmark beside "Manually configure server settings or additional server types." Click "Next."
  4. Ensure Internet Email is selected. Click "Next."
  5. For this step, fill in the blanks similar to what is showing on this snapshot:
    • Your Name: Your first and last name
    • Email Address: Your Windstream email address (this can be your legacy CTC/Valor email address)
    • Incoming (POP3): pop.windstream.net
    • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.windstream.net
    • User Name: Your Windstream email address
    • Password: Your Windstream Email password (Check box to remember password)
  6. Click "More Settings." Click on the Outgoing Server tab and place a checkmark on "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Click "OK."
  7. You should be back on the screen with your setup information. Click "Next" and click "Finish."

Outlook 2003 XP

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Outlook 2003 XP:

  1. Open Outlook 2003 and go to the Tools menu. Select "Email Accounts."
  2. On this window, select "Add a new email account." Click "Next."
  3. Select "POP3." Click "Next."
  4. For this step, fill in the blanks similar to what is showing on this snapshot:
    • Your Name: Your first and last name
    • Email Address: Your Windstream email address (this can be your legacy CTC/Valor email address)
    • Incoming (POP3): pop.windstream.net
    • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.windstream.net
    • User Name: Your Windstream email address
    • Password: Your Windstream Email password (Check box to remember password)
  5. Click "More Settings." Click on the Outgoing Server tab and place a checkmark on "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Click "OK."
  6. You should be back on the screen with your setup information. Click "Next" and "click "Finish."

Outlook 2000

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Outlook 2000:

  1. Open Outlook 2000 and click on "Tools" in your top menu bar. Then select "Accounts."
  2. In the Internet Accounts window click on the "Add" button and select "Mail."
  3. For the "Display Name" put in your first and last name and click "Next."
  4. Enter your Windstream email address in the "Email Address" field and click "Next."
  5. For the mail server names:
    • Incoming (POP3): pop.windstream.net
    • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.windstream.net
    • After entering this information, click "Next."
  6. Enter your Windstream email address in the "Account name" field and your Windstream email password in the "Password" field. Be sure to place a check next to "Remember password" and click "Next."
  7. Select "I will establish my Internet connection manually"" and click "Next."
  8. Click "Finish."
  9. On this window ensure "pop.windstream.net" is selected and click the "Properties" button.
  10. In the properties window select the "Servers" tab. Place a check in the box beside "My server requires authentication." Click "OK."

Outlook 2000 should be set up and ready for use.

Outlook Express

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express and go to the Tools menu. Select "Accounts."
  2. On the Internet Accounts window, click on the "Add" button and select "Mail."
  3. For the "Display Name," put in your first and last name. Click "Next."
  4. For the "Email Address," put in your email address. This picture shows a Windstream.net email address. If you are a former Valor/CTC customer and have a legacy email address, put it in here. Click "Next."
  5. For the mail server names:
    • Incoming (POP3): pop.windstream.net
    • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.windstream.net
    • Click "Next."
  6. For the Account name put in your full email address and password. Be sure to place a check in "Remember password." Click "Next."
  7. Click "Finish."
  8. On this window, ensure "pop.windstream.net" is selected and click on the "Properties" button.
  9. On the properties window, select the "Servers" tab. Place a check in the box beside "My server requires authentication." Click "OK."

Outlook Express should be set up and ready for use.

Windows Live

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email in Windows Live Mail:

  1. In Windows Live Mail, click on "Add email account."
  2. On this screen, put in:
    • Full Windstream Email Address
    • Password
    • Name of customer
    • Place a check mark on Manually configure server settings for email account.
  3. Complete the following on this screen.
    • Incoming mail server: POP3
    • Incoming server: pop.windstream.net
    • Login ID: FULL EMAIL ADDRESS
    • Outgoing server: smtp.windstream.net
    • Place a check mark on "My outgoing server requires authentication."
  4. Click "Finish."

Windows Live Mail should be set up and ready for use.

Mac 10.5: Mail (Leopard)

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email on your Android device:

  1. Click the Mail icon in the Dock, or in the Applications folder via Finder.
    • If you have not yet set up any accounts, the Welcome to Mail window appears, and you can skip to Step 4.
    • If you already have an account in Mail, and wish to add another account for your Windstream email, continue with Step 2.
  2. Click on "Mail" on the menu bar at the top left, and select "Preferences."
  3. Click the Accounts icon in the Mail Preferences window, then click on the "+" button at the bottom left.
  4. Enter the Full Name, Email Address, and Password, then click "Continue."
  5. Choose POP for the Account Type.
    • Enter the Incoming Mail Server: pop.windsteam.net.
    • Also enter the username and password for the account, and click "Continue."
    • When you click "Continue," it will test the connection to the server, and test the username and password. This can take some time.
  6. Enter the Outgoing Server: smtp.windstream.net.
  7. Also check the box for "Use authentication," then click "Continue." When you click "Continue," it will test the connection to the server, and test the username and password. This can take several minutes.
  8. Any additional settings, such as leaving messages on the server, etc., can be accessed by clicking on the "Advanced" button on the Account Preferences page.

Mobile Device Email Clients

Apple Mobile Device

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email on your Apple device:

  1. From your Home Screen, tap on "Settings" icon.
  2. Then tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."
  3. Tap "Add Account" under the Accounts section.
  4. Tap "Other."
  5. Tap "Add Mail Account."
  6. Enter in your name, email address, password, and account description, then tap "Next."
  7. Tap on "IMAP." If you do not have an IMAP button, skip to the next step. If you are going to set up email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch using IMAP, it is critical that you set up your email clients on all your PCs to use IMAP as well. Failure to do so will cause "POP lock" on your email account due to the nature of how IMAP maintains a session with the mail server.
  8. Enter "imap.windstream.net" for the Incoming Mail Server host name, then enter your full email address and password in the designated fields.
  9. Enter "smtp.windstream.net" for the Outgoing Mail Server host name, then enter your full email address and password in the designated fields and tap "Next."
  10. You will see a message that says "Verifying IMAP account information." If you get the message, "Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?" tap "Yes."
  11. Your mail setup is now complete. To access your email, tap on the "Mail" button on your Home screen.

Android Mobile Device

Follow the steps below to set up your Windstream.net email on your Android device:

  1. From the home screen tap the Applications Tray and then tap "Email."
  2. Select "Add Account."
  3. In the "Email Address" and "Password" fields, enter your Windstream.net email address and password and tap "Next."
  4. Select "IMAP" as your email account type.
  5. Enter the "Incoming server settings" then tap "Next" and enter the "Outgoing server settings."
  6. See below for reference:
    • Server Settings
    • Username: Your windstream.net email address
    • Password: Your windstream.net email password
    • Incoming Server: (IMAP) mail.windstream.net (Port 143/465 with SSL)
    • Outgoing Server: (SMTP) mail.windstream.net (Port 25/587 without SSL/465 with SSL)
  7. Place a checkmark in the desired account options and tap "Next."
  8. Enter a name for your account and then your name and tap "Done."
  9. Your account is now created and you can send and receive email.
